For 2021 and possibly moving forward we have redesigned the Lenham Cross marathon route to conform with social distancing guidelines. We still aim to offer the same great experience but with some slight changes.
Our flagship race will still start and finish at Detling village hall the runners will first head east out on the North Downs Way right the way to the Lenham Cross. They will return along the Pilgrims way before being diverted and returned to the North Downs way further along. They then return to Detling. From Detling there is a 7 mile loop bringing you back to the finish at the village hall. The course will be fully marked.
The route is predominately trail with approximately 4 miles of road.
Expect it to be cold, muddy and with 3600ft of elevation, hilly with a few steps. The race will start in waves from 7.30 with an 8 hour cutoff for the last group. We need to remain flexible on how this event takes place and a more detailed race day guide will be issued nearer the time.
You will still get a chip timed event, stocked checkpoints, a goody bag (if there is no access for tea and cake in the village hall) and a medal.
This is a tough course with almost zero chance of a PB unless of course it is your first marathon!
The race will be held under the revised UK Athletics rules.
* Should the race HQ or checkpoints be cut off due to snow or high winds the decision wouldn’t be taken lightly but the race could be cancelled at short notice and all entries deferred to the following year. The same is said for any restrictions put upon us by the government or the TRA regarding Covid. If we have to cancel, entries will be deferred to 2022*
Please be aware there are no refunds and no runner to runner transfers. What we do offer is the option to transfer your entry to the following year or to an equally priced event. This offer is open up to 3 weeks prior to the event. Once this period has passed there are no options open to you.
